Croquet, Miss Holt Style

Constance Holt, Henry and Lucy Bowen’s granddaughter and the last resident of Roseland Cottage, would hire townspeople dressed in white to play croquet on the lawn while she entertained inside, in order to capture the mood of her grandfather’s era. Though the flag is center stage in this picture from the 1960s, there are croquet wickets to be seen on the north lawn.
