Attic Cistern

The first water storage system at Roseland Cottage was a cistern in the attic that provided water by gravity to the lower floors. It is a simple zinc lined rectangular box. Filling it required water to be pumped by hand from the well and much larger cistern in the cellar up three floors to the attic. The attic cistern may have provided water to three locations in 1846: the scullery, the first floor bathing chamber, and the second floor service hallway.
