Brooklyn, City of Churches

Central to Henry Bowen’s concept of New England village culture was the Congregational Church. His first foray into spreading Congregationalism beyond the borders of New England was the founding of the Church of the Pilgrims in Brooklyn, New York. Designed by Richard Upjohn in 1844, it was the first Romanesque Revival church in the country.
