The Sitting Room
In the morning the sitting room is bathed in light, and would have been a comfortable place for Ellen or Lucy to sew or write letters or handle the other tasks associated with running the household. The oriel window offered a nice sunny seat. In addition to providing a work space, the Sitting Room served as a connector between Henry’s and Lucy’s rooms. A strip of original wallpaper was found behind a hat rack hanging on the south wall during preservation of the cottage. It was used as a model for the exact reproduction that is here now. The deep pink in the paper is a color that was associated with Roseland. That strip of original paper from the 1860s is now in the sitting room at Roseland Cottage.
