A Short Life

Little Winthrop died in 1865. His father recorded his death in the Bowen family Bible. “Winthrop Earl Bowen youngest child of Henry and Lucy Maria Bowen Died at 76 Willow Street, of inflammatory croup, on the 12th day of May 1865 Aged two years two months and eighteen days.” The illness is a respiratory tract infection of the larynx and trachea, mostly seen in young children. Its defining symptoms are a barking cough, airway obstruction, and hoarseness.
