Artesian Well

Procuring sufficient water was an essential task for every household. In Woodstock, families relied upon wells. Roseland Cottage had an artesian well in the basement in 1846. Water from this well was hand pumped into a cistern located directly next to the well. It is possible that an intricate rain water collection system was also built into the house to supplement the well.
