Gothic Crib

New York, c. 1845-50.

This crib, used by many generations of the Bowen family, was likely initially purchased by Henry and Lucy in Brooklyn. They may have had it made for their first son Henry Elliot, born in 1845, or for Grace, the first child born in their Gothic brownstone on Hicks Street, in 1850. It’s a remarkable symbol of their love of the Gothic style, and, of course, for their children.
