Named after a novel of the same name, ‘Lena Rivers was Grace Bowen’s doll. Her extensive wardrobe reportedly was made by Edna Dean Proctor, the family’s governess, using remnants of fabric left over from making Grace’s clothes. Tradition dictated that the doll pass through the generations to the next Grace in the family. It came back to Roseland Cottage several years ago, with a suitcase full of clothes and a copy of the novel. ‘Lena and a sampling of her wardrobe is in the Presidents’ Room at Roseland Cottage.
