Hemlock Care

Two grand hemlocks in front of the barn may date back to Henry Bowen’s time. These towering trees receive tender loving care, and they need it. Hemlocks have been under attack by the wooly adelgid for decades in Connecticut, but at Roseland Cottage they remain healthy. Here, compressed air is forced two feet under the surface to decompress the soil around the roots of these splendid specimens.
