Roseland Cottage

The Loss of Loved Ones

The family suffered further losses over the years when son John Eliot died in 1890 and Henry and Ellen’s only child, Paul, died in 1895. Following Henry Bowen’s death in 1896, the family continued to gather in Woodstock in the summer. Ellen died in 1903. Following her death, the second generation began to transform Roseland Cottage into a year-round home.
