Edna Dean Proctor, the family governess and maker of ‘Lena Rivers’ clothes. In a letter to Miss Proctor, who was a teacher at Woodstock Academy, Henry Bowen wrote that if she would serve as the family’s governess, Lucy and he would treat her “as one of us.”
