In the late 1800s, the Bowen family added a modern bathroom plumbed for running water on the second floor in the space that was Henry Bowen’s office. They installed a claw foot bath tub, sink, and a high-tank or pull chain toilet. Above the toilet was a tank filled with water. Pulling on a chain released the water that flowed by gravity into the bowl to flush. This style was replaced in the 1930s with a more modern fixture.
