Plymouth Church and the Rev. Beecher

Only three years after founding Pilgrim Church, Bowen was instrumental in founding Plymouth Congregational, also in Brooklyn. It was Bowen who asked Henry Ward Beecher to serve as pastor, and Joseph Wells, architect of Roseland Cottage who furnished the tabernacle-style design.
