Polo and Croquet

The Bowens took competition on the croquet court seriously. Lucy and Henry’s son Ned wrote of his much younger brother John, “I never saw him really angry but once, and that was when a boy of eight or ten years old. This outburst of passions was because I put him off the croquet grounds as he interfered with my game.” The croquet set and polo mallets are now on display at Roseland Cottage.
