The Barouche

The Bowens purchased this barouche carriage in 1870, presumably to bring President Grant from the train station in Putnam, Connecticut, to Roseland Cottage in high style. Thousands lined the roads, all wanting to pay tribute to U.S. Grant. The seven mile trip took hours. The barouche can be seen in Roseland Cottage’s bowling alley.
