“They are bound to kill Mr. Lincoln”

“Will you tell Mr. Lincoln that these facts are real?” Charles Gould’s plea to Bowen, asking him to alert Lincoln to a plot to assassinate him as he travels through Baltimore to his first inauguration. Gould appeals to Bowen, since Gould “has never known Mr. Lincoln much,” and fears that those who were supposed to warn him had spent too much time among “humbugging politicians” to be convincing.
