Wappaquassett Club Mallets

Bowen brothers John, Frank, and Clarence formed the Wappaquassett Polo Club in 1878, and played on the common against teams from as far away as New York City. Clare writes, “The game was intensely exciting and it seemed as if I never enjoyed myself so much.” Clare’s journal also records numerous accidents to the brothers while playing polo. Polo and croquet mallets are in Ned’s closet at Roseland Cottage.
