Roseland Cottage

The Windmill

In order to run the fountains in the park, in 1879 a windmill was constructed. It was plagued with problems—by 1892 “it is not to be depended upon”—and was removed in 1898, when it was deemed unsafe. The windmill appears in the J. J. Sawyer portrait of Henry Bowen, an indication of how important Roseland Park was to him.
