Roseland Cottage

Technology at Roseland Cottage

Henry and Lucy Bowen were an upper class young couple living in New York City in the 1840s, a time when domestic technology was changing and the city provided access to it. Joseph C. Wells, the architect of Roseland Cottage, incorporated current technology in his design. Over the years, Roseland Cottage was modernized to accommodate an expanding family, the significant demands of Henry Bowen’s social schedule, and to improve the comfort and function of the estate.
